Traffic stop nets pot, LSD
These bags of marijuana and 29 stamps of lysergic acid diethylamide — LSD — were seized during a May 23 traffic stop by officers from the Floresville Police Department.
FLORESVILLE -- Devon Martinez, 18, of San Antonio is charged with possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and possession of 20 to 80 units of aa controlled substance in Penalty Group 1A, following his May 23 arrest here.
Patrolmen Matthew Redd and Billy Herrera of the Floresville Police Department conducted a traffic stop of Martinez’s vehicle, which Redd said was speeding west on Trail Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday. During the officers’ investigation, they found five bags in the vehicle that contained a total of 17 grams of high-grade marijuana. Martinez also had 29 lysergic acid diethylamide -- LSD or “acid” -- stamps in his wallet.
According to the National Drug Intelligence Center, LSD is a synthetic drug that has been abused since the 1960s for its hallucinogenic properties. The illegal drug is sold as a liquid or applied to blotter paper -- resembling stickers or stamps -- as well as sugar cubes, gelatin squares, and tablets that allow users to ingest it orally.
Martinez was transported to the Wilson County Jail, where Wilson County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Sara Canady set his bond at a total of $10,000. Martinez posted bond May 24 and was released, pending consideration of his case by a grand jury.
If convicted, Martinez faces up to 10 years in prison.
