Brad Keselowski turned in a record-setting lap time of 21.892 seconds (164.444 mph) at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Friday afternoon to claim the pole for Sunday’s FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. It’s his second pole of the season.

“They gave me a great car here with the Miller Lite Ford Fusion,” Keselowski said. “I didn’t feel like I got it all the first run. I like this group qualifying, and I got another shot at it.”

Keselowski will be joined of the front row by Kyle Busch, who qualified second. Keselowski’s Team Penske teammate Joey Logano qualified third.

“All I heard was Kyle say he came up a little short, and I guess I am the same thing, just a little shorter,” Logano said. “We picked up a lot of speed from where we were in practice.”

Busch was the fastest in the first of two rounds of qualifying with a lap time of 21.898 seconds (164.399 mph) in round one. Other fast drivers in round one included Jimmie Johnson and Logano, who were second and third in the round.

After being second-fastest in round one, Johnson earned the fourth spot on Sunday’s starting grid in the second and final round of qualifying. Kyle Larson was the highest-qualifying rookie, rounding out the top-five.

Other drivers advancing to round two and claiming the sixth through 12th starting positions for the race include (in the order in which they qualified from sixth to 12th): Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers, Clint Bowyer, A.J. Allmendinger and Greg Biffle.

Forty-three drivers, the exact number that make up a full race field in Sprint Cup racing, made qualifying attempts in the first round, so all who got on the track during qualifying garnered spots on the starting grid for Sunday’s race.
