4A agrees to Greco settlement

FLORESVILLE -- The ongoing legal battle centering around alleged shoddy workmanship of the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center on S.H. 97 West could be coming to an end. The Floresville 4A Corp. board -- which oversees the center -- voted unanimously at a May 28 special meeting to approve a settlement offer between the corporation, Greco Construction, Inc., and a host of subcontractors.
The board met for approximately 30 minutes in closed session to discuss the matter with attorneys Rob Killen and Michael Gavito. Vice President Bill Gleeson -- who presided over the meeting in the absence of President Melissa Popham -- deferred all comment following the meeting to Killen.
The settlement agreement is not yet executed, Killen said, but he expected the process to be complete within 30 days. He said a statement would be released to the media afterward.
Greco was the prime contractor for construction of the event center, which was completed in 2010. By 2012, however, court documents reveal that claims began to surface about water-intrusion issues, roof leaks, musty odors, condensation, cracks in stucco, and more. Consultants concluded that it would cost more than $2.6 million to make the necessary repairs.
Greco had placed blame on its subcontractors. One of them -- Alliance Steel -- alleged that architectural firm Saldaña & Associates recommended a vented ridge be installed over the banquet room. That ridge was one of the areas that leaked.
Also in attendance: Floresville 4A Corp. board members Andy Joslin, Traci Jaskinia, LeAnn Drozd, and Debra Conoly.
