Offer condolences


Bennie J. Herrera Sr. entered into the care of our Lord and Savior on the morning of Wednesday, May 21, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 21 days. He was born on March 30, 1935, in Poth to Jose and Teresa Jimenez Herrera. He was a lifelong resident of Floresville.

He grew up with strong ethics and a respect for hard work and tight family. Bennie worked for Southern Steel, Dickey Clay, and the city of Floresville. Most residents recognize Mr. and Mrs. Herrera from taking tickets at Eschenburg Field at every home football game. Bennie was known by many names -- Viejo, Dad, Grandpa, Boy GG, Paylor, and Benito. His beliefs and ethics will continue on by the legacy of family he and Vangie created. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill Herrera; sister Susie Castro; and beloved grandson, Bobby Ray Herrera Jr.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 55 years, Angelina “Vangie” Barrientez Herrera of Floresville; sons Bennie Herrera Jr. and wife Jeanette and Bobby Ray Herrera Sr. and wife Tracy, all of Floresville; sister Elida Barrientez and husband Louis of Houston; grandchildren Bennie Herrera III, Angel Mari Herrera, Marian Herrera, Derek Herrera, and Eric Travieso; great-grandchildren Addison, Trini, Sage, and Juliet Herrera, Justine Keys, and Adrianna, Devyn, Airiq, and Joy Travieso.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 23, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor Billy Moore.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Billie Castro, Andy Deanda, Bennie Herrera III, Eric Travieso, Billie Herrera Jr., and Ruben Herrera.
