1940-2014

Ralph Delmar Gerhardt was born to Albert W. and Eva Lee J. Gerhardt on April 18, 1940, and passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014, at the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 8 days.

Ralph graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1958. He graduated from St. Mary’s University in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in both mathematics and physics. He started his career as programmer for the U.S. Air Force Security Service, where he worked for 31 years and attained the position of director of information services until age 55. He was currently involved as curator of the Wilson County Jail Museum.

He really enjoyed being “Elf Jolly” at Christmas in the local newspaper-sponsored events. He served on the development and review board for Wilson County and was very active in the local government in Floresville. He served as president of the Wood Valley Home Owners Association for more than 15 years. He also served as a volunteer in the Home Owners Association fire department. He was very active in the Wilson County Tea Party and truly loved his country.

Ralph was preceded in death by his father, Albert W. Gerhardt; and mother Eva Lee J. Gerhardt.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Gerhardt; his daughter, Lynn Anderson and husband Russell; four grandchildren, Zack, Jacob, Emma, and Faith; daughter Kimberly Gerhardt and Scott Murray; his two brothers, Carl Gerhardt and wife Linda and Alton Gerhardt and wife Eva; sister-in-law Vera Mae Pheiffer; two aunts, Barbara and Kathleen Johnston; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins; and many friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 30, at 5 p.m. in Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio, Texas.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First Protestant Church of New Braunfels officiated by Pastor Daryl Higgins.

Interment followed in the Mission Burial Park South in San Antonio.

Serving as pallbearers were Russell Anderson, Larry Gerhardt, Andrew Garcia, Earl Leaverton, Don Munford, and Lee Nichols.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Carl Gerhardt, Alton Gerhardt, Steven Gerhardt, Mark Thompson, and Scott Murray.

There was a memorial last night for Ralph at the Wilson County Jail Museum that Ralph curated and loved . Thanks to all that attended and shared great memories of our friend and fellow patriot . He will be missed by many.
