Watermelons, rodeos, bulls — Jubilee time!
Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee weekend will kick off Thursday, June 19, with turn-in and judging for the Watermelon Growing Contest from 4-8 p.m. at 1009 West Jackson St. in Stockdale.
The deadline to enter this year’s Watermelon Growing Contest is Wednesday, June 18, by 5 p.m. Entries received on or before Friday, June 6, are $25; entries received after June 6 are $50. All entries are required to submit an additional donation of five watermelons to be turned in at the official weigh-in.
The LTR Jubilee Bull Buck-Out is set for June 19 at 7 p.m. in the rodeo arena. Tickets are $15 at the gate or online at www.ticketweb.com. The admission also includes a concert by the “Junction 541 Band” from 9 p.m. until midnight. Children 10 and younger get in free.
The festivities for Friday, June 20, will begin with the crowning of Miss Rodeo Stockdale 2014 and her court during the Lester Meier Rodeo Co. pre-show at 7 p.m., followed by the first installment of the Watermelon Jubilee Rodeo including mutton bustin’ and a calf scramble.
The 70th annual Watermelon Jubilee will conclude Saturday night, June 21, with the final installment of the Lester Meier Rodeo Co.
Presale tickets for the rodeo (including concert performances) are available for $20 per person from any Jubilee or Rodeo Court candidate, at Brahma Bullpen, or at Brahma Express. Tickets may also be purchased in advance from www.ticketweb.com.
