Editor:

In 1969, I bought 12 acres of land in Wilson County. At that time, my taxes were about $10 or maybe $15.

Things since have dramatically changed. Now I owe taxes of almost $500.

My question is, are we taxed based on your economic needs and how much you want to spend?

I have nothing to show for paying all these taxes. My land is landlocked, so that I have no access. This is offensive to me.

Earlier this year, we went to the tax-assessor office and at that time, I spoke to one of these persons and the reply I got was convoluting. I did not understand it.

Franklin, I believe that the parcel is too small to merit any significant fine for the neighbor(s) refusing to comply with a County Clerk's instruction to provide a easement. I think the acreage has to be 1280 to merit ... More ›

I think that one of the property owners that are closest to the nearest road has to provide an easement. It might take suing them, but I believe an easement has to be given by law. Id check with the Commissioner in the Precinct ... More ›

How about donating the land to the American Cancer Society and let them deal with the issues?

If I had a situation like Mr Gonzales, I would ask the ARB to produce evidence supporting the market value which would include the sale of like properties which is probably non existent. If this did not result in a drastic ... More ›

Muse....A quick check indicates that prior to 1995, it was possible to purchase land locked property without any type of easement. I think Glenn has the right idea.

Muse... Must have swam in from the ocean or maybe used a float tube to access the waterfront property. :-) They walk among us.

Sell your land to one of your neighbors. 1969 was 45 years ago, so stuff is gonna cost more.

I didn't think a parcel of land could be landlocked. I thought, perhaps erroneously, that access had to be given by easement. If not, you should have straightened out access prior to buying the land. How do you get to the ... More ›
