Editor:

High taxes. That’s what happens when you vote for every park, pool, golf course, community center, bike path, and school building project. Voters don’t realize that voting for bond issues will mean higher taxes one way or another because these projects must be paid for.

I always vote no on anything that’s not an absolute necessity, because, sooner or later, you have to move because you can no longer afford the taxes. The liberals in Austin are paying now. I have no sympathy for them, just for the rest of us who got caught up in their insanity.

Not a homeowner? You still pay because the landlord just passes increases on to you in the form of higher rent. Keep that in mind when you are voting for special ballot proposals. Just say no.

Does PreK-SA ring a bell? S.A. mayor Julian Castro stuck us with that turkey and now he’s moving up to greener pastures in Washington. What is that if not wealth redistribution? Studies have shown pre-K doesn’t help kids in elementary school. They don’t show any learning advantages over kids that didn’t have pre-K.

I’m a victim right here in Wilson County, too, where my farm is located. It had some of the lowest taxes in the state when I bought it 10 years ago. That was before these (well meaning?) liberals took over, and Wilson County’s taxes now are higher than ever. Makes me want to sell my property.

Beware your local liberal economic development huckster. He or she can price you right out of your property. I did my homework before I bought here, but little did I know they were going to go ape in a few years.

If we elect common sense politicians who take their duty to the voters seriously and spent taxpayer dollars accordingly, there would probably be few gripes about tax valuations and taxes. By the way, market value is not the only ... More ›

Senior Citizen... I own ten plus acres in Wilson county. The price different between the type of land is not germane to this conversation. The market value for any particular property minus the exemptions determines the ... More ›

Try selling farmland at the same price per acre as you would sell land for development of a subdivision. Vast difference!

Rhonda..... I grieve for you in your sad state of victimhood. Having to pay about $26.25 per month in taxes on a little over 21 acres of land with about 2100 square feet of sheds and bldgs. really must be a hardship. I ... More ›
