Eckel remains PEDC president
POTH -- Chrystal Eckel will continue to serve as the president of the Poth Economic Development Corp. (PEDC) board of directors, following a unanimous vote at the board’s June 2 meeting. Other officers seated at the meeting include Vice President Clifton Zaiontz and Secretary/Treasurer Richard Harris -- who was not present.
Also during the meeting, the board was introduced to new member Karla Blackstock, who recently was appointed to replace Keith Rodgers.
While the board perused the monthly budget report, Gene Maeckel expressed concern over the amount the PEDC will pay for the University of Texas at San Antonio’s completion of the city’s vision plan. The document was the product of a study conducted by the university, which helped the city, the PEDC, and the Poth Independent School District to tailor their goals toward addressing future growth trends.
The PEDC has paid $23,330 toward the study, while the school district has paid just $5,000. Because the school district has gained the most from the plan, Maeckel wondered if its share of the bill should have been greater.
“We gave all of the money, but we get no input,” he said. “The school is not carrying the load.”
The board voted 3-1 to accept the monthly budget report, with Maeckel casting the dissenting vote.
