The Karnes City High School valedictorian is Lauren Kelley, the daughter of Danny and Carol Kelley.

During high school, Lauren was the president of the National Honor Society, as well as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She participated in volleyball, earning All‐District honorable mention and Academic All‐State. She was also the cheerleading captain and secretary of the Student Council. She participated in track, advancing to regionals in the long jump. Lauren loves to write, and was editor‐in‐chief of the Badger Times. She received regional champion in editorial writing and advanced to state. She also helped with the yearbook, serving as the assistant editor. Lauren was the senior class secretary and vice president of the Girls Athletic Association. In her free time she rides in parades for Miss Karnes City and Miss Karnes County as first runner-up.

High school was filled with so many good memories. Some of her favorites come from Friday night lights. She loved cheering on the track and supporting the Badger football team. It was so fun to cheer with her friends and pump up the crowd. She also loved playing volleyball, loving the adrenaline and the excitement of playing the really good teams in the district.

If Lauren could tell younger students one thing, it would be to do as many activities as you can. Doing multiple activities builds relationships with people and teaches you to work in a team setting. Being active in your school also teaches you how to manage your time, a skill that is necessary to be successful in the future. Also, take things one day at a time. She has learned that worrying and stressing gets you nowhere, so live fearlessly and be positive!

Lauren is extremely lucky to have many people to look up to in her life. First, she relied on God to be her main strength, leaning on Him when she was weak, and giving Him all the glory in everything she accomplished. She also has a wonderful family who were always very supportive of her in anything she wanted to do. Without their love, she would not be here today. Special thanks also to all the teachers whom she learned from, including Patsy Yanta, Christina Rodriguez, and Marsha Brockman.

Lauren has been accepted into the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin, where she will attend in the fall of this year.
