Jared Bryan VanAuken is the 2014 Nixon-Smiley High School valedictorian. He is the son of Jeff and Anita VanAuken, and the grandson of Bobby and Jane Allen and Bob and Pat VanAuken.

Jared has been active throughout his high school career. He is a member of the Nixon-Smiley Student Council and serves as the president of National Honor Society, the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the president of the senior class. He has amassed an impressive collection of academic excellence awards in the core subjects.

Athletically, Jared has participated in football, baseball, and basketball for four years, receiving numerous honors and All-District selections.

Jared enjoys helping others; he tutors, assists in the summer basketball league for younger students, and is a devoted member of his church.

In the future, Jared plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and seeks to major in history or anthropology. He aspires to one day work in a field involving scientific research, but his ultimate goal is the same as it has always been, to challenge himself and become the person God wants him to be.
