John Spencer Flieller is the valedictorian of the 2014 graduating class of Poth High School. Spencer is the third child of John and Linda Flieller and the third child in their family to become valedictorian at Poth High School. His sister Lauren was valedictorian in 2010, and Emily was valedictorian in 2011. He is the grandson of Jerome and Albina Flieller of Floresville and Tom and Janie Stuebben of San Antonio.

Spencer was a member of the varsity football team for two years and earned Academic All-District in 2012 and Academic All-State in 2013. He played high school basketball all four years and was a member of the varsity basketball team for three years, earning honorable mention his sophomore year and second team All-District his junior and senior years. Spencer was a member of the varsity track team for three years and was a regional qualifier in 2011, 2012, and 2013. He ran for the varsity cross-country team his freshman and sophomore years and was a regional qualifier both years. Spencer was also a member of the varsity golf team in 2011 and 2012.

As a member of Beta Club for four years, Spencer held the office of treasurer his senior year. He was a member of Poth FFA for the past two years and held the office of treasurer this year. In academic UIL, Spencer competed in headline writing, editorial writing, and number sense, where he advanced to regional competition in editorial writing and number sense in 2011. He was a member of the Science Club for two years.

Outside of school, Spencer was a member of the Sunnyside 4-H Club, serving as president the past three years. He is an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a team leader for Teen ACTS. He also works part time at Deason Animal Hospital and for T bar L Ranch.

In the fall, Spencer will be attending Texas A&M University in College Station majoring in animal science. Upon earning his bachelor’s degree, he plans to apply to veterinary school.
