Tomorrows leaders: Katheryn Bernal East Central HS top-ranking student
Katheryn Bernal, the highest-ranking senior at East Central High School, will be attending Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in the fall, where she will pursue a degree in computer science with a concentration in security. Katheryn has received an Academic Achievement Scholarship to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, a Faculty and Tuition Scholarship from Our Lady of the Lake University, and a Michael J. Balint Scholarship.
While at East Central, Katheryn played the flute in band for two years, excelled in art classes all four years, and enrolled in numerous Pre-AP, AP, and Dual Credit courses through Palo Alto as well as Northwest Vista colleges. She is active in National Honor Society, Beta Club, French Club, National Spanish Honor Society, is the vice president of the National Art Honor Society, and co-president of the STEM Club.
Katheryn was also a member of the Cyber Patriot All Girls Team for two years, placed second in the UTSA Engineering Junk Drawer Racing and qualified for state in VASE two years. She scored a 4 (the highest) all four years in VASE competition.
On top of her school activities, Katheryn volunteers at Petco, and has been a summer camp assistant for Highland Forest Elementary School and a Relay For Life volunteer.
“Katheryn Bernal is the example of heart. She isn’t the first to voice opinion or inject ideas among a group. Instead, she weighs everything carefully and makes a contribution that carries significance. She is genuine. She is sincere. Best yet, she is truly passionate about giving her best. Among thousands of great students, Katheryn is extraordinary. I am so blessed to be part of her travel upward,” said English IV Dual Credit teacher Jarrett Aldrich.
Katheryn is the daughter of Andrew and Christine Bernal of San Antonio.
