Stockdale High School is proud to announce the 2014 valedictorian is Lauryn Elizabeth Coston. Lauryn is the 17-year-old daughter of Randall and Karen Coston, younger sister of Landon Coston, and granddaughter of Ralph and Edna Coston and Marilyn Varnon, all of Floresville.

Lauryn has challenged herself academically throughout her high school career. She has been in Pre-AP English, Geometry, Chemistry, Algebra, and Physics. Then she progressed to AP English, Pre-Calculus, and now AP Calculus. Stockdale coordinates with St. Philip’s College to offer dual-credit classes, so Lauryn will graduate with 21 hours and a 4.0 grade-point average. She has enjoyed taking journalism and has published articles in the Wilson County News.

Lauryn has always strived to maintain her class ranking in academics and balance that with athletics. She has been a three-time regional qualifier in tennis and received Lady Brahma Tennis Player of the Year. She played varsity softball and has received first team All-District, Academic All-District, and team MVP this year. Lauryn also played varsity basketball, but unfortunately retired early due to a broken wrist.

Lauryn is a member of the National Honor Society and actively demonstrates her leadership qualities as she volunteers. Lauryn is a member of First Baptist Church of Floresville and enjoys helping with Vacation Bible School every summer. During basketball season you would find her helping out at the junior high basketball concessions or helping raise money for gifts for underprivileged children.

Her academic achievement and leadership qualities will be a wonderful foundation for her pursuit of a business management degree at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor this fall. She is super excited to attend this prestigious university where she will receive the Valedictorian Scholarship and the UMHB Leadership Scholarship.

Lauryn would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Stockdale ISD for supporting her throughout her time there.
