Kezia Garcia, the Floresville High School class of 2014 salutatorian, is the 18-year-old daughter of Gerardo and Olga Garcia. She is the granddaughter of Ambrocio and Esther Garcia and the late Esteban and Margarita Martinez.

Her faithfulness and diligence in her studies have resulted in being honored as a distinguished student, earning 24 hours of college credit. Her efforts have brought recognition and honors throughout her school career. Kezia participated in Link Crew and UIL academics, is a member of the National Honor Society, and earned Outstanding Student of the Year awards in AP Spanish Language, Horticulture, Pre-AP Algebra II, Broadcast Journalism, Marketing, and Pre-AP Pre-Calculus. She was recognized as student of the month in March of her senior year. As a member of Business Professionals of America, Kezia was on the Broadcast News Production team and advanced to state competition her senior year.

Aiming to be independent and self-sufficient, Kezia focused on developing good study habits, which would allow her to learn and succeed in school. This, in turn prepared her for employment. Not wanting to delay the experience of belonging to the work force, she accepted an internship with the Wilson County News in the summer and fall of 2012. In the fall of 2013, Kezia accepted a position with H-E-B, where she was named employee of the month for her department last November. She has continued working at H-E-B throughout her senior year.

Kezia plans to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio to major in nursing. She hopes this will lead to a job that offers the satisfaction of supporting herself while she helps others.

Although she has made great strides with her school and secular work, Kezia’s life is dedicated to bringing glory to her Creator through her Christian ministry as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Knowing Kezia and her parents as I do, the sky's the limit; her goals are high, but she is firmly rooted in reality. We are proud of you, Kezia, and proud of mom and dad, Jerry and Olga Garcia.

The salutatorian of my class (at FHS) went on to get a Doctorate in Computer Science and is in management at one of the largest software innovators in the world. Will you set your goals as high as that?

Kezia is an all-around awesome person and she is a pleasure to know. It seems like just yesterday that Kezia was a happy-go-lucky smiling little girl who would come visit her mom at the Wilson County News. Now, she is a young ... More ›
