HOBSON -- Deputies from the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office are hunting for a group of suspected illegal immigrants who fled on foot from two vehicles just before noon on F.M. 81.

According to Sheriff Dwayne Villanueva, a perimeter has been established in the approximate area of county roads 207, 211, and 220 and F.M. 81. Anyone in the area who sees suspicious activity or people is urged to call 911 at once.

Villanueva said as many as 30 people are believed to have fled from the two vehicles. As of approximately 1:45 p.m., 16 were in custody. He suspects the remaining fugitives to soon make themselves known, as soaring daytime temperatures will prompt them to search for water.
