Glenn Coleman Coates, M.D., a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014, at 7:20 p.m. in the Metropolitan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 29 days. Glenn was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Galveston, the son of William Coleman and Adeline Carpenter Coates.

After graduation from college, Glenn married Mary Grace Hendricks on June 7, 1959, in Dallas. He received his medical degree from UTMB, Galveston in 1962, and served his internship at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. Glenn then served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He and his family moved to Floresville in 1967, where he faithfully practiced family medicine until his retirement in 1998. Glenn enjoyed sailing, woodworking, and traveling in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Grace Coates of Floresville; his children, Douglas Coleman Coates and wife Debra of Schertz, Clinton Edward Coates of San Antonio, and Monica Grace Coates Farias and husband Nolberto Farias Jr. of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Chad Clinton Coates, Marissa Grace Farias, and Chloe Grace Farias; his sister, Lisa Coates Hutcherson and husband George of Palestine; and his niece, Melissa Bledsoe of Palestine.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 10, at noon in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor Gordon Lindley. Cremation followed the services.
