A Watermelon Growing Contest will once again be held on Thursday, June 19, in conjunction with the 70th annual Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee.

The contest is open to any resident of Wilson County and surrounding areas. Any variety of melon may be entered. Entry fee is $50 plus five ripe melons before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. No entries will be accepted after 5 p.m. June 18. Donated melons may be turned in on day of weigh-in.

The heaviest melon will be declared “King of the Jubilee.” All entries will become the property of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce. The winner is guaranteed a $500 cash prize and trophy, and is invited to be the primary watermelon seller at the 2015 Watermelon Jubilee. Second place is guaranteed a $250 cash prize, and third place is guaranteed a $100 cash prize.

Entries and donated melons must be delivered to 1009 West Jackson St. in Stockdale between 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 19. Official weigh-in will take place during this time.

The winning melon and its grower(s) will be invited to participate in the Watermelon Jubilee Parade on Saturday, June 21. The top grower will be introduced at halftime of the Jubilee rodeo performance on Friday, June 20.
