This weekend, both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series will turn left and right as both series go road course racing, but not at the same road course. The Sprint Cup Series will race in Sonoma, Calif., on Sunday, while the Nationwide Series heads to Elkhart Lake, Wis., to take on left and right turns at Road America. The Camping World Truck Series has the weekend off.

Here’s a look at the combined weekend schedule for the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series (courtesy of NASCAR.com):

all times ET

12:30-2 p.m. -- Nationwide Series practice
2:30-3:55 p.m. -- Nationwide Series final practice

6:30-8 p.m. -- Sprint Cup Series final practice (FOX Sports 1)

1:40 p.m. -- Sprint Cup qualifying (FOX Sports 1)
2:45 p.m. -- Nationwide Series race (ABC, beginning at 2:30 p.m.)

WEATHER (courtesy of weather.com)

From a participation standpoint, Sonoma Raceway looks to be in great shape to host the Sprint Cup Series this weekend. The forecast shows zero percent chances of rain, not only for race day, but also for practice on Friday. There is a slight 10 percent chance of rain for Saturday, which is qualifying day for the series. As far as temperatures go, highs are expected to be in the 80s all weekend, with Friday being the hottest at 89 degrees. The high on Sunday is expected to reach 86 degrees. Overnight lows all weekend are expected to be in the lower to mid-50s all weekend long.

As for Elkhart Lake, Wis., host to the Nationwide Series, there’s a good chance of a morning thunderstorm, specifically an 80 percent chance. Rain chances decrease somewhat during the day on Friday, but could interfere with the day’s practice schedule. On race day (Saturday), though, the chance of rain drops to 10 percent. Weekend highs are expected to be in the lower to mid-70s range, with overnight lows in the mid to upper-50s.
