Letter: Wake up, America; we have plenty oil

All the local and major cable news sites have jumped on this false panic over the loss of oil from the Middle East. The United States is awash in its own oil. What the United States does lack is enough oil refineries in which to refine our own oil.

I had to laugh at the new NBC prime time television show that is based on a fictional hospital in San Antonio, which places an oil refinery in San Antonio. We can thank those who believe in so-called global warming for this panic. How is it that in the 1980s, we were taught that we were in danger of another ice age? Now the far left environmentalists have successfully prevented new refineries from being built by threatening global warming.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s website, “The newest refinery with atmospheric distillation capacity greater than 100,000 barrels per day began operating in 1977 in Garyville, Louisiana.” Others have been “upgraded,” but fall far short of our needs, so the United States ships its oil to be refined in other countries.

This has been a problem for so very many administrations. We can’t really blame this on any one political party, but the media crying wolf on the cost of gasoline rapidly rising on a false pretext is just that: False! The lack of true investigative journalism is sorely lacking today, and is compounding the already perilous road we are heading down to self-destruction.

Wake up, America!
