Sanders installs VFW Post officers
District 20 Commander Larry Sanders (center) congratulates the newly elected presidents of the Ladies Auxiliary and VFW Post No. 8555 and thanks the outgoing officers. The Wilson County Memorial VFW Post No. 8555 of Poth conducted its ceremony of installation of the new Post and Ladies Auxiliary officers June 1 in the VFW Hall in Poth.
Installing officer was incoming District Commander Larry Sanders, assisted by Edward Torres and Tony Labello, also officers from District 20. A very special guest was Felipe Zuniga, World War II veteran, who joined the military when he was 15. Zuniga has held several offices in the VFW. He is also the very supportive husband of outgoing District 20 Ladies Auxiliary President Candilaria Zuniga. Mrs. Zuniga was in attendance to assist Dee Long, former District 20 Ladies Auxiliary president, in the installation of the Post 8555 Auxiliary officers.
Post officers installed were Commander Edwin Dziuk, Senior Vice Commander Marvin Roemer, Junior Vice Commander Edward Ortiz, Quartermaster George Coffey, Adjutant Richard “Dick” Evins, Chaplain Rufino Cantu, first-year Trustee Ray Silva, second-year Trustee Henry Montez, third-year Trustee Leo Schneider, and Guard Alfred Mergele.
Auxiliary officers installed were President Molly Roemer, Senior Vice President Honey Knight, Junior Vice President Margie Arnold, Secretary Linda Sanchez, Treasurer Mary Ann Reed, Conductress Joyce Gorden, Chaplain Evelyn Raabe, first-year Trustee Lucille Novak, second-year Trustee Pam Ortiz, and third-year Trustee Kim Martinez.
The ceremonies were followed by dinner and fellowship with friends and family members in attendance.
The new slate of officers will begin their duties at the next meeting, Monday, July 14.
