Police subdue man after pursuit
FLORESVILLE -- James Harold Bailey, 46, of Ranger is being held in the Wilson County Jail on $13,000 bond after police say he evaded them June 16.
Detective George Ortiz of the Floresville Police Department said that police Sgt. Devin Keen spotted Bailey, who was driving a Nissan pickup truck, on U.S. 181 at approximately 11:40 p.m. Keen reported that Bailey was failing to maintain a single lane of travel, which prompted the sergeant to attempt a traffic stop. Bailey allegedly refused to stop, prompting Patrolman Matthew Redd to join in the pursuit.
Ortiz said Keen’s report indicates that Bailey proceeded north on U.S. 181 and turned onto C.R. 130, where he accelerated to 80 mph. When Bailey attempted to make a right turn onto U.S. 181 Business, he lost control of the pickup truck and crashed, with the vehicle being stuck off road.
Redd subdued Bailey with the use of his TASER electroshock weapon, after the suspect reportedly attempted to flee on foot.
Police charged Bailey, who they said exhibited a strong odor of alcohol, with evading arrest or detention and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle.
