Mamie Ruth Kennedy, 93, of Nixon, Texas, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014. She was born March 17, 1921, in the School Land community in Gonzales County to John J. and Margaret (Pruett) Mahan.

Mamie Ruth married Earl Kennedy in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Jan. 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1990.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, David Mahan, Alvin Mahan, Howard Mahan, Amos Mahan, Derwood Mahan, and Tom Mahan; and four sisters, Celeste Henry, Glenna Lewallen, Merle Bland, and Bessie Littlefield.

Mamie Ruth is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hoffman and husband Donald of Nixon, and Margaret Davis and husband Jim Ed of Nixon; her son, Jim Kennedy and wife Paula of Nixon; six grandchildren, Lisa Webb and husband John of Nixon, Randy Hoffman and wife Pam of Nixon, Dawn Johnson of Seguin, Erin Turner and husband Tim of Kyle, Ashley Davis of Laredo, and Jimmy Kennedy and wife Lisa of Woodsboro; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends.

Visitation was held Sunday, June 22, from 6-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Newman officiating.

Interment followed in the Nixon Cemetery in Nixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Encouraging Word Christian Fellowship, Guadalupe Regional Hospice, or God’s Storehouse.
