Doris Christine Fikes Melenesk, formerly of Sutherland Springs, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 16, 2014, in the Country Care Manor in La Vernia at the age of 88 years and 11 months. Doris was born in Cameron (Milam County) on July 11, 1925, to Raymond and Minnie Lee Fikes.

Doris loved to crochet; in fact, she was obsessed with it. Many family members have several items made by her over the years. Her son recalls that Mike and Doris traveled all over the place in the milk truck while she crocheted her heart out. Doris was ready to go be with her beloved husband Mike, where he has been waiting for her with open arms.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Victor Ray Lamb, who passed away at age 31; her husband and love of her life for 38 years, Michael “Mike” Melenesk; her parents; two brothers, Robert L. Fikes and Stanley Fikes; two daughters, Sharon Annette Lamb and Patricia Denise Lamb Gutz; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lawrence and Betsy Melenesk and Melvin and Mary Mueller.

Doris is survived by her brother, Elby Glen Fikes of Houston; one son, Bobby Carl Lamb and wife Debra (Dunn) of Corpus Christi; her grandson, Darren Ray Lamb and wife Marcia Gutierrez Lamb of Sinton; and granddaughter Dawn Elizabeth Gutz Boyle. She is also survived by six great-grandsons, Johnathan Lamb, Daniel Lamb, Braeden Lamb, Christopher Barthold, Dustin Boyle, and Dylan Boyle; two great-granddaughters, Piper Lamb and Lauren Hanson; and one great-great-grandson, Luke Cyr; numerous nieces-in-law, nephews-in-law, and cousins-in-law.

A funeral service was held Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville with Pastor Joe Stansell of River of Life Christian Fellowship Church officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Donald Ray Dunn, Darren Ray Lamb, Johnathan Douglas Lamb, Daniel Ray Lamb, Christopher Barthold, and Eddie Mueller.

Interment followed in the Sutherland Springs Cemetery in Sutherland Springs.
