Peter and Lucy (Appelt) Franckowiak celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on Monday, June 23, 2014. The couple were married in 1945 in St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in San Antonio, just 10 days after Peter returned from World War II.

He had been in San Antonio on leave when news of the Pearl Harbor attack reached the United States. He immediately left to return to Brownwood, Texas, where he was stationed in the U.S. Army at the time. As he was leaving, he “jokingly” said, “See you after the war,” and that is exactly what happened. They did not see each other again for more than four years.

Mr. and Mrs. Francowiak have five children, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
