Troopers seek tips after recovery of stolen skid-steer
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) continues its investigation into a stolen 2011 John Deere skid-steer loader, recovered June 26 in a pasture off S.H. 97 between Floresville and Stockdale.
According to DPS Trooper Steve Bailey, the unit is valued at $33,000. It was reported stolen from San Antonio June 24.
Skid-steer loaders are given that designation because the wheels are mechanically locked in synchronization on each side. The zero-radius turning and compact design of these machines make them the ideal choice for working in tight spaces. These are typically used on construction sites, often referred to by the brand name Bobcat.
Bailey said a Guadalupe County sheriff’s deputy, who is a member of the Sheriff’s Combined Auto Theft Task Force, was en route from Seguin to Floresville when the LoJack transmitter in his patrol vehicle indicated that a stolen vehicle was in the area. With the help of a San Antonio Police Department helicopter, officials located the stolen skid-steer hidden under a tree in a pasture.
