Offer condolences


Maria Escobedo Sanchez, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 5:46 p.m. in her residence in Floresville, at the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 5 days. Maria was born April 27, 1922, in McCoy, the daughter of Camillo and Santos Ramos Escobedo.

She worked as a cook for Skarke’s Café and Hartmann’s Café for many years. Maria married Martin Ramos Sanchez Sr. on Jan. 26, 1947. Martin, Maria’s beloved husband of more than 33 years, preceded her in death on March 22, 1980. Maria was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville and was a member of Guadalupanas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin Ramos Sanchez; her sons, Antonio Macias Sr. and Frank Rios; her daughters, Virginia Sanchez and Cruz Sanchez; her son-in-law, Jake Vasquez Jr.; and seven siblings.

Maria is survived by her children, Victor E. Sanchez and wife Ofelia of San Antonio, and Aurora E. Sanchez, Paul E. Sanchez Sr., Fernando E. Sanchez and wife Rosalinda, Oralia Vasquez, and Martin E. Sanchez Jr. and wife Clara, all of Floresville; daughters-in-law Virginia Rios and Olga Macias, both of Floresville; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Benito Escobedo and Felix Escobedo, both of San Antonio. Visitation was held on Friday, July 4, at 5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church, officiated by the Rev. Frank Kurzaj.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Tony Macias Jr., Adrian Sanchez, Joshua C. Lemke, Paul Sanchez Jr., Christopher Vasquez, Frank Zepeda Sr., and Martin J. Sanchez.
