Help Wanted

Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Anita Alonzo Flores passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 7 days. She was born on Sept. 24, 1935, in Floresville to Martin R. and Angelita Perales Alonzo.

She was a former resident of Floresville and a San Antonio resident for 41 years. Anita and her husband, John, were house parents at the Baptist Children’s Home for more than 17 years and were parents to many young boys over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Eugene Flores; and nieces Angela Martinez and Natalie Joy Ximenez. Anita is survived by her husband, John Edward Flores of San Antonio; son David Lee Flores of San Antonio; sisters Janie Marroquin and husband Trinidad of San Antonio, Lucy Martinez and husband Alex of Floresville, Rita Prouty and husband Raymond of San Antonio, and Julia Ximenez and husband Johnny of Floresville; brothers Abraham Alonzo of San Antonio and Martin Alonzo and wife Nora of San Antonio; grandchildren Dominic Flores and Eduardo Garcia; foster sons Mark Powers, Llyas Salahudin, Khalid Salahudin, Ismail Salahudin, and Ruben Arredondo; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 8, at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the El Mesias Methodist Church in Floresville, with the Rev. Francisco J. Briones officiating.

Interment will follow in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Elias Marroquin III, Joshua Marroquin, Jeremiah Prouty, Benjamin Alonzo, Llyas Salahuden, and Eduardo Garcia.
