This series profiles area organizations that help meet needs in our communities.

Organization: Ministerial Alliance of Floresville

What it does: The organization assists Floresville residents in payment of utility bills and provides food boxes, coats, and blankets to families in need. There are no fees for assistance. The alliance also refers clients to other community agencies that may help them.

Background: The Ministerial Alliance, established approximately 14 years ago, consists of eight local churches working cooperatively to assist the needy residents of the greater Floresville area. The alliance operates on donations from loving, caring, congregations of the local community. All donations are distributed 100 percent to the needy.

According to alliance volunteers, in 2012, they provided nearly $20,000 to those in need, for utilities assistance.

Area churches are invited to join and participate in the ministerial alliance to provide needed assistance.

How you can help: Monetary donations are most appreciated.

An offering is invited during the annual community Thanksgiving service in Floresville, held the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Events, fund-raisers: Proceeds from the First Lutheran Church Sausage Supper, held in September, benefit the Ministerial Alliance.

Contact: John Conrad, director, 830-393-2747, or flchurch@dojoy.org.
