Deputies find ‘coyote’ truck stash
FAIRVIEW -- Officials believe that four stolen pickup trucks found in dense brush off C.R. 122 east of here were used to smuggle illegal aliens.
According to Investigator Gary Laughlin Jr. of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Toby Garcia responded after the property owner informed officials he discovered a 2006 Ford F-250, a 2005 Ford F-250, a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500, and a 2001 Ford F-250.
All four vehicles were reported stolen and had obvious signs that they were used to smuggle human cargo, Laughlin said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 830-393-2535.
Anonymous tips, for which cash rewards are given if they lead to an arrest, can be furnished to Crime Stoppers of Wilson County at 830-393-INFO (4636) or http://bit.ly/NDrIut.
Smuggling networks frequently steal full-sized, four-door, domestic pickup trucks between five and 10 years old from urban centers such as Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. The vehicles then are used by smugglers -- or “coyotes” -- who pack the vehicles full of undocumented immigrants. This practice has resulted in numerous high-profile crashes involving countless deaths on Texas roadways.
