Arland “Nick” Claude Nichols Sr., 88, of Adkins, Texas, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. He was born in South Bend, Wash., on June 22, 1926, to Claude and Cora Nichols.

Arland was a World War II veteran (U.S. Navy), retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1965 and Civil Service (Kelly Air Force Base, special weapons) in 1993. He lived a long and happy life and will be missed by his children, family, and all who knew him, said his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Josephine Kunze Nichols; and brother Gerald Nichols.

Arland is survived by his children, Arland Nichols Jr. of Lubbock, Patrick Nichols and wife Kathy, Andrew Nichols and wife Stacy of San Antonio, Daniel Nichols Sr., Alfred Nichols and wife Barbara, Mary Nichols Armbruster and husband Kelly, Margaret Nichols Lynch and husband Glenn, John Nichols and wife Jody of La Vernia, and Robert Lane of La Vernia; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Sunday, July 13, from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel, with the Rev. James Gerard Galvin officiating.

Interment followed in the Mission Burial Park South Cemetery in San Antonio.
