A semi-tractor towing a load of fracking sand has stopped traffic near Loop 1604 and U.S. 87 at Lone Oak.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the driver of the truck, based in Floresville, miscalculated and took out the CPS Energy pole, which provides electrical service to the Shell station and convenience store.

Volunteer fire departments from China Grove and Lone Oak, along with CPS Energy officials, personnel representing Bexar County, and more responded to the scene.

The truck was transporting 50,000 pounds of fracking sand. The driver was transported to Mission Trails Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, complaining of blood pressure issues, a witness said.

Power to the gas station and convenience store was out for more than an hour. Store personnel had to dispose of all refrigerated items. Owner Issac Pumjani said he “is just glad no one was hurt.”

CPS crews will work to replace the utility pole. Power is again expected to be out for this location, and traffic may be impacted as work continues at the scene.
