County mulls $17.3M plan
It is officially budget season for the Wilson County Commissioners Court. As part of a special July 18 meeting, the commissioners held a workshop related to the 2015 fiscal-year budget.
The spending plan, in its present form, totals approximately $17.3 million -- including almost $11.9 million for the general fund and the remainder spread among “other funds.”
In his report, County Auditor Tom Dupnick said the proposal included a 3-percent salary increase for all county employees. However, a 5-percent increase -- which would cost approximately $141,000 -- also was discussed.
Dupnick also said various county departments are asking for additional items, totaling $726,055.65, such as:
•Criminal Justice Center staff (dispatchers, jailers), $250-per-month salary increase -- $179,326
•Sheriff’s office staff (investigators, deputies), $500-per-month salary increase -- $187,668
•County Attorney’s Office, add victims assistance coordinator’s position -- $39,275 ($25,000 salary and benefits)
/Collector’s office, add one full-time employee -- $33,450 ($21,000 salary and benefits)
•Health and Public Safety Office, add full-time septic tanks inspector -- $39,275 ($25,000 salary and benefits).
