Glenwood Helmke went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the age of 84. He was born on May 8, 1930, to Alvin and Lorine Helmke.

Glenwood grew up in La Vernia, Texas, and served in the U.S. Army for two years. He married Nadine Schultz Kirby and they lived happily for 37 years. Glenwood worked for Mobil Oil Corporation for many years and finished his career at Marshall Distributing. He was an active member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Alamo Heights.

Glenwood was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nadine Helmke; children Fred Kirby and Rebecca Green; grandchildren Tawni and Robby Green; stepsister Leona Wagner; stepsister-in-law Ellen Howard; numerous cousins; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Sunday, July 20, from 3-5 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service was held on Monday at 1 p.m. in the Christ Lutheran Church of Alamo Heights in San Antonio.

Interment followed in the Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek Cemetery in Seguin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church of Alamo Heights, 6720 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209.
