San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garc’a-Siller has announced his appointment of Marti West as the new superintendent of Catholic schools. The announcement was made July 18.

West has worked for the archdiocese’s Catholic Schools Office since 2009, beginning as a consultant, and was named interim superintendent in February.

West holds a Bachelor of Arts in managerial studies from Rice University and a master’s in teaching, curriculum, and instruction from the University of St. Mary. She is a graduate of Padua Academy in Wilmington, Del. She began her teaching ministry in a Japanese missionary school and has worked in Catholic schools in Virginia and San Antonio as a teacher, administrator, instructional coach, and consultant. She has been married for 25 years to Jim West; they have four children.

There are 43 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, which last school year served 13,300 students.
