BCSO: Sandbagger targets motorists on U.S. 181

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two reports of someone dropping sandbags from overpasses on U.S. 181 in the Elmendorf area.

According to sheriff’s office spokesman Rosanne Hughes, officials received a call at approximately 3 a.m. July 25 about a female passenger in a small sedan who was being treated in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville after being hit by a filled sandbag. Hughes said the object entered the vehicle when it ricocheted off the windshield, after being dropped from the overpass at U.S. 181 and Loop 1604.

A second call was received at roughly the same time from a driver on U.S. 181 who reported that his truck was damaged when a sandbag dropped from the railroad trestle near CPS Energy’s Calaveras power plant. Hughes said the driver was not injured.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 210-335-TIPS (8477).

Don't loose sight of the fact that someone dropping a sandbag on your vehicle is using that sandbag as what any reasonable person would consider a deadly weapon. Defend yourself and other motorists in danger accordingly and... More ›
