WASHINGTON--U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today addressed Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)’s refusal to allow a vote on the HUMANE Act, bipartisan legislation designed to address the growing crisis on the southern border. The full speech can be seen by going here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4wQfVO4wIg.

Excerpts of his remarks are below.

“Well, the Majority Leader has said that he doesn’t like the proposal that Congressman Cuellar and I have proposed which is now being considered for inclusion in the House bill.

“But if he doesn’t like that, I ask where his solution is?

“The course we’re on is one that guarantees that this problem will continue to get worse, not better.”

Rank-and-File Senate Democrats Support Changes to 2008 Trafficking Law:

“Centrist Democrats, however, say policy changes are appropriate and want to see Reid find common ground with Republicans.”(“Obama Border Bill Divides Dems,” The Hill, 7/19/14)

·SEN. McCASKILL (D-MO): “I think we should have the same law on the books for Central America as we have for Canada and Mexico.”(“Obama Border Bill Divides Dems,” The Hill, 7/19/14)

·SEN. CARPER (D-DE): “Sen. Tom Carper (D) said the funding and the policy changes should move together. ‘I think they go together.’” (“Obama Border Bill Divides Dems,” The Hill, 7/19/14)

“Not all Democratic members are opposed to changing the law. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) told The Huffington Post on Wednesday that he viewed such changes as common-sense reforms.”(“Boehner Won’t Get Help Passing GOP Border Bill, Top House Dem Says,” Huffington Post, 7/23/14)

·MANCHIN: “The way to stop it is have the same turnaround time that you have for contiguous countries...”(“Boehner Won’t Get Help Passing GOP Border Bill, Top House Dem Says,” Huffington Post, 7/23/14)

“When asked if he would vote for a spending bill that did not make policy changes, Manchin says he is ‘very interested’ in the Cornyn-Cuellar proposal.”(“Obama Border Bill Divides Dems,” The Hill, 7/19/14)

·MANCHIN:“Just a clean 3.7 [billion]? No, I think we have to make sure we have the direction we’re going to spend that.” (“Obama Border Bill Divides Dems,” The Hill, 7/19/14)

Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.

Senior, every session the House passes hundreds of bills and they never get through the senate. Do some research and you will understand why they don't make it through the Legislative Process.

The best thing that the US congress could do for this nation would be copying Texas and meet every two years.

What about the more than 300 House-passed bills sitting on Uncle Harry's desk. THAT is being an obstructionist.

What about Boehner not bringing immigration up for a vote this year?
