1941-2014

Randalin “Randy” King passed away on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, after 37 days in an Intensive Care Unit due to complications from bypass surgery. She was born in Shell Lake, Wis., to Rai and Lorraine Stouffer on May 15, 1941. Her daughter, Teresa, and husband Don were at her side.

She moved with her family from Wisconsin to Houston in 1970 and to Adkins in 1979. She settled in on the Other King Ranch and started her livestock career with a handful of calves and some quarter horses that she got in trade for an antique walk-in cooler. This provided the base for one of her great passions, horse racing. She bred and raced horses for several years and stated that one of her greatest thrills was to see her horse cross the finish line first. To support her horse habit, she worked at Mr. C’s Ice House for 18 years where she dispensed coffee, gasoline, and advice. Her other passion was fishing. She caught fish from Alaska to Mexico and the Atlantic to the Pacific. Her favorite guide, Spoony, said, “I am betting the angels will learn to fish.” On her 50th birthday she landed a 101-pound sailfish out of Matalan, Mexico. Randy was known for her big heart, generosity, deep love for family and friends, and love of babies and small animals. She had an incredible zest for life and brought fun and adventure wherever she went. She is sorely missed by all who loved her, said her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Don; and sister Karen.

Randy is survived by her husband, Don; sisters Shirley and Gwen; brother Albert and Rai; son Robert; daughter Teresa; daughter-in-law Edith; son-in-law Seth; grandsons Cody and Oleg; granddaughter Elizabeth; and her faithful companion of 13 years, Precious.

Visitation was held on Monday, Aug. 4, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, Texas.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel.

Interment followed in the Salem Sayers Cemetery in Adkins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Red Cloud Indian School at www.redcloudschool.org.
