The Maverick Golf Association of Floresville held its sixth annual Flag Tournament July 4 at the River Bend Golf Club at Floresville. Twenty-three members participated to see how far they could play before having to “plant” their American flag.

Winners included Paul Shoemake, first place; Alice Martin, second; Ron Worley, third; Bobby Skloss, fourth; and Bill Martin, fifth.

Longest drive in the men’s division went to Kodie McClure and Conrad Burks. Alice Martin had the longest drive for the women’s division. Closest to pin honors went to Gene Wiederkehr and Dick King. In the women’s division, winners were Alice Martin and Peggy Steves.

The association would like to thank the following businesses for donating prizes and items for the golfers’ goody bags: River Bend Golf Club, Ancira Ford, EZ Wash, Lube Works, First Convenience Bank, Hibbett Sports, Maverick Grill, Lew’s Patio & Grill, Dairy Queen of Floresville, Whataburger of Floresville, and Scoops & More.
