FLORESVILLE -- Leandro Quiroz-Alonzo, 47, of Carrollton is in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service following his Aug. 11 arrest here.
According to Chief Deputy Johnie Deagen of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Quiroz-Alonzo was driving on S.H. 97 East in the vicinity of Floresville High School at 1:14 a.m. in a 2004 Jaguar when he allegedly committed a traffic violation. Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Beck reported witnessing the violation, which resulted in a traffic stop.
During his investigation, Beck reported finding crystalized methamphetamine -- often referred to as “meth” -- and $3,191 cash in the Jaguar, which led to Quiroz-Alonzo being arrested and transported to the Wilson County Jail, Deagen said. While sheriff’s Deputy John Muñoz conducted a search on Quiroz-Alonzo in the jail’s sally port, additional meth was found concealed on the suspect’s person. The deputy also reported finding a key card to a room at the Super 8 motel in Floresville.
Deagen said deputies traveled to the motel to conduct a “knock and talk.” A woman, who was in the company of a small child, answered the door and allowed deputies to search the room. Inside, they found more meth, along with scales and other paraphernalia. The woman and the child were detained but later released. The child’s mother, who lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, came to retrieve the child, Deagen said.
A final weight for the meth has not been determined, but Deagen said at least 1 pound, 12 ounces was seized, along with the cash and the Jaguar. Deagen said the illegal narcotic has a street value of $600 to $1,200 per ounce, meaning that the amount seized is worth more than $16,800.
Agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety narcotics division also are assisting in the investigation, which will be handed over to federal authorities.
