Members of the East Central FFA Chapter attended the 86th annual Texas FFA State Convention held July 14-18 in Fort Worth.

Members who attended the convention include Alyssa Denson, Rachel Diaz, Zachary Franckowiak, Jenjer Freeman, Cayla Golson, Jordan Hevner, Julie Kosub, Paige Kosub, Madison Lange, Lacey Opiela, Kylie Patterson, Hannah Plate, Johnna Pieniazek, Randee Terrill, Kelsey Walla, Cheyenne Zaiontz, and Shannon Zaiontz.

The East Central FFA Chapter was recognized as the gold-level chapter for the esteemed Golden Horizon award in the multi-teacher division. The gold level -- based on exceptional chapter involvement and activities within the school and community -- is the highest state rating to bestow upon a Texas FFA chapter.

Members receiving their Texas FFA Lone Star Degree -- the highest degree of active membership by the state FFA association -- during the state convention included Paige Kosub and Cheyenne Zaiontz. Members not present, but raised in membership were Steven Fanick, Lindsay Hamer, Paige Plate, Dallas Polasek, Kearsten Pollok, and Sabra Williams.

Cayla Golson placed fifth in the Texas FFA Junior Prepared Public Speaking Contest at the state convention. To qualify for state competition, Cayla advanced through one of 57 district competitions in the state and finished as the Area 7 winner.

Star Chapter Degree award winners were recognized and Johnna Pieniazek and Kylie Patterson were recognized as state finalists.

In the ExxonMobil AgriScience Fair, Johnna and Kylie were named state winners and may advance to national competition. Each girl received a $1,000 scholarship from the Wallrath Education Foundation.

The East Central FFA Meats Team of Tommy Fletcher, Ciara Gawlik, Jordan Hevner, and Shelbie Knox was recognized as state champion and will compete for the national title in October.
