1941-2014

Paul Bradford Stanfield, 73, of Marion, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. He was born on April 30, 1941, in Champaign, Ill., to Louis Paul and Dorothy Ann (Lawlor) Stanfield.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served as a radar man aboard the USS Elokomin. In 1968, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and was assigned to Randolph Air Force Base. He retired from active duty at Randolph in 1982 and promptly continued to serve his country as a contract aircraft mechanic until his retirement in 2002. Paul married Sandi (Williams) Stanfield on Nov. 23, 1989; they were married for 24 years and 8 months. Paul loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Flying Anglers Bass Club for many years. He spent many summer weekends camping with his family at Canyon Lake and enjoyed taking his sailboat out on the water. Paul also had a love of animals and rescued many cats and dogs over the years, regardless of the animal’s health or cost to make them well. He saved many animal lives and was generous to a fault.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi; daughter Rebecca L. (Stanfield) Thompson and husband Keith of La Vernia; grandson Ryan and wife Amanda King; great-grandchildren Calvin Edward and Callie Marie King of Ozark, Mo.; stepdaughter Dede Lobetti and husband Joe; grandson Jesse Thomas of Knoxville, Tenn.; stepson Rick and wife Ramona Harnish; grandsons Austin, Andrew, and Alan of Schertz; sister Pam Holland of Orangeburg, S.C.; brothers Steve Stanfield of California and Bob and wife Sandie Williams of LaPorte; sister-in-law Carol Ernhardt of Columbus, Ohio; and many loving friends.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 1:15 p.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, officiated by his grandson, Ryan Edward King.

Memorial donations may be made to the Schertz Animal Adoption Center, 800 Community Circle, Schertz, TX 78154.
