Joe Gibbs Racing held a press conference on Tuesday to announce that Carl Edwards will join JGR for 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition. Edwards’ move to Joe Gibbs Racing had been widely speculated and presumed for months, but the announcement on Tuesday morning made the move official.

Edwards will drive a No. 19 Toyota entry for JGR next year, growing Joe Gibbs Racing’s Sprint Cup stable to four full-time entries, as Edwards joins Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth as full-time Cup drivers for the organization next year. JGR also announced that ARRIS Group Inc. will be the primary sponsor on Edwards’ No. 19 for 17 races next year.

“This is one of the biggest days in Joe Gibbs Racing’s history,” Joe Gibbs Racing owner Joe Gibbs said. “A driver the caliber of Carl Edwards on board to launch our fourth team is just a thrill.”

To this point, Edwards has driven Fords for Roush Fenway Racing for his entire Sprint Cup career. He has a total of 23 race wins, 106 top-fives and 182 top-10s over the course of his 11-year Cup career, to date. He has two wins, so far, this season, so he’s a lock to be in this year’s Chase for the Sprint Cup. Edwards came close to a Sprint Cup championship in 2011 when he finished out the season in a points tie with Tony Stewart. Stewart was crowned series champion by virtue of race wins.

Another announcement coming from Tuesday’s presser was the announcement that Daniel Suarez would compete for JGR full-time in the Nationwide Series next year. Also, Joe Gibbs Racing announced a diversity initiative to help develop Mexican and Latin American drivers in the NASCAR Toyota Series in Mexico.

“We also have the opportunity to announce a new partner in ARRIS that will not only sponsor Carl, but also share a vision with Carlos Slim Domit and Escuderia TELMEX to develop Mexican and Latin American drivers in NASCAR,” Gibbs said. “We are excited to have Daniel Suarez at part of that program and look forward to watching his development in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. next season.”
