Average Floresville tax bill to rise by less than $3
The Floresville City Council is considering a 0.18-cent increase in the city’s ad valorem tax rate.
City Manager Henrietta Turner said following the council’s Aug. 12 budget workshop that a property-tax rate of 32.52 cents per $100 of taxable value is being proposed for the 2015 fiscal year. The rate is equal to the rollback rate -- the maximum tax Floresville can levy without triggering a rollback election. This will allow for the same amount of revenue for maintenance and operation functions, plus 8 percent.
Turner said that assuming a 94-percent collection rate, the higher tax rate would yield $48,024 in additional revenue.
According to the Wilson County Appraisal District, the average home in Floresville has a certified taxable value of $101,644. Therefore, if the proposed rate is adopted, the average property owner will pay $330.55 in taxes to the city for the 2014 tax year. This is $2.73 more than last year’s average tax bill -- when homes had a certified average taxable value of $101,398 and were taxed at a rate of 32.33 cents per $100 in taxable value.
Also during the workshop, Turner and the council discussed Floresville’s employee-salary schedule, reviewing the projected impact of possible merit-based increases ranging between 1.5 percent and 4.5 percent. Turner said she is recommending an average raise of 3.5 percent, which would be awarded based on employees’ evaluation scores.
