1948-2014

Daphne Visconti of Fairfax, Va., found peace and rest with the One Presence on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, after an extended period of illness. She was born to Ivan and Jean Randall on Feb. 19, 1948, in Providence, R.I.

She attended and graduated from high school in Binghamton, N.Y. She relocated to northern Virginia in 1980. It was here that she met her beloved, the late Otis Taylor “O.T.” Amory, who affectionately called her “Red.” She resided in Floresville briefly in 2013. Daphne worked in the fashion industry and as a manager when she was younger. During her years in northern Virginia, she worked in real estate, where she was a top producer with ERA and RE/MAX. She was involved in many service projects throughout her life. Daphne was an active member in the PTA of MacArthur School in Binghamton. She taught Bible classes to toddlers at Bruen Chapel United Methodist Church in Fairfax. She served on the board of directors of the Homeowners Association at the Ponds of Centerville twice, and she was elected treasurer of the Residents Council at Genesis Potomac Center in Arlington.

Daphne’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her numerous caregivers, health-care providers, concerned friends, family members, and neighbors for their countless acts of kindness, including, Joseph Visconti, Kathy Mulbley, Pamela S. Mattare, Karen Cook, Monica Welham, Don Petersen, Tanya Nuttall, Kathy McMenamin, Krissy Helmstetter, Kaija Barlow Dallessandro, the Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett, the CommUNITY at Unity Church of San Antonio, the Rev. Jane St. John, the Unity Church of Fairfax, and the International Youth of Unity Sponsors. Daphne’s health-care providers included staff at Fairfax County Adult Protective Services, Floresville Nursing Center, Manor Care Nursing Home, Inova Hospitals (Fair Oaks, Fairfax, and Arlington), Virginia Hospital Center, George Washington University Hospital, and Da Vita Dialysis. The family is especially grateful to the staff of Genesis Potomac Center in Arlington and Vitas Hospice.

Daphne is survived by her daughters, Allison Visconti of Austin, Texas, and Jennifer Shawker of Floresville; and two grandchildren, Mary and Ryan.

A celebration of Daphne’s life will be held on Friday, Aug. 22, at 3:30 p.m. in the Genesis Potomac Center in Arlington.

A graveside gathering for family will be held on Saturday in Greene, N.Y.
