1915-2014

Eugene Leonhardt went to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, in Floresville at the age of 98. Eugene was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Fratt, Texas, to Emil and Nellie (Ward) Leonhardt.

Gene grew up on the family farm near Kirby. He was a World War II veteran and served in Guadalcanal and in the South Pacific with the 472 Engineering Corps. After the war he settled back in the Kirby area, serving the community as a barber for 63 years. He also served as president of the Kirby Hermann Sons, was a member of the Judson Independent School District school board, and the Kirby City Council.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Malinda Leonhardt; his parents; brother Fred Leonhardt; and sister Lillian Glenewinkel.

Eugene is survived by his daughter, Janie Leonhardt; son Curtis Leonhard and wife Denise; daughters Glenda Brady and husband Dan, and Karen Boenig and husband Jim; sister Irene Rittmann; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 22, from 6-8 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.

Interment followed in the Bueche Cemetery in Windcrest. A reception followed in the Kirby VFW.
