Offer condolences


Esther Felan Barbosa, loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great- and great-great-grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at the age of 106. She was born on Aug. 2, 1908, in San Antonio, Texas, to Anastacio and Antonia (Faz) Felan.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff of New Century Hospice, who provided excellent support and care to Esther during her final days. Esther led a long and productive life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, said her family.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; son-in-law Ernest Valdez; sisters Guadalupe Botello, Antonia Rodriguez, and Edith Garza; and brothers Pablo Felan, Fernando Felan, and Daniel Felan.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Villarreal and husband Ralph, Margaret Valdez, Madeleine Felan and husband Joe, and Richard Barbosa and wife Thelma; brother Fred Felan and wife Anita; sisters Alicia Martinez and Hortencia DeLaRosa; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 22, from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral Mass was held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St. Ann Catholic Church in La Vernia, officiated by the Rev. Stan Fiuk.

Interment followed in the St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in La Vernia.
