Friday, Aug. 22

Compared to last week: Hay prices were mostly unchanged to instances weak on a few ground alfalfa trades reported. Trade activity was slow on light to moderate demand. Dairies and feedlots remain to have a “wait and see” attitude because most are full for now and waiting for cheaper rations. The Panhandle has become dry once again and hoping for rain. South and East Texas Coastal Bermuda producers have received a few showers this week. They are still asking same prices on their hay, however movement is slow as there is plenty of hay on hand this year. Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where noted.

North, Central, & East Texas

Alfalfa: Large Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme $300.

Coastal Bermuda: Small Squares: FOB: Good to Premium $165-$230, $5-$7 per bale.

Large Rounds: FOB: Good to Premium $60-$70, $120-$140 per ton.

South Texas Hay Report

Coastal Bermuda: Small squares: FOB: Good to Premium $230-$265, $7-$8 per bale; Fair to Good $165-$200, $5-$6 per bale.

Large rounds: FOB and delivered locally: Good to Premium $120-$160; $60-$80 per roll.

Grass Hay: Large Rounds: FOB: $40 per roll.

The Texas Department of Agriculture has Hay and Grazing Hot Line set up for buyers and sellers looking for hay or grazing; the number is 1-877-429-1998. The website for the hotline is: www.TexasAgriculture.gov/hayhotline.
