GILLETT -- Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol continue their investigation into a multi-vehicle Jan. 6 crash near the intersection of S.H. 80 and C.R. 266 that ended with one dead. Three other men were injured -- one critically -- and transported to area hospitals.

Karnes County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Delia Villanueva pronounced Doroteo Gonzales, 63, of Sinton dead at the scene. This is according to Trooper Anthony Flores, a DPS spokesman.

Flores said the preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 6:45 a.m., the driver of a 2013 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, which was towing a gooseneck trailer, was stopped southbound on S.H. 80 where he was waiting to make a left turn onto C.R. 266. A southbound tractor-trailer struck the rear of the gooseneck trailer, sending the pickup truck and trailer into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a second tractor-trailer driven by Gonzales.
