The investigation continues into allegations of a sexual relationship between a teacher and a 16-year-old La Vernia High School student. Chief Bruce Ritchey of the La Vernia Police Department and Superintendent José Moreno of the La Vernia Independent School District held a press conference Feb. 2 to give an update on the status of the investigation.

Ritchey confirmed that 27-year-old Taylor Vader of Universal City had been arrested Jan. 31 and charged with sexual assault of a child and with having an improper relationship between educator and student. He was subsequently booked into the Wilson County Jail, where records indicate he was released Feb. 1 after posting a total of $80,000 bond.

Moreno said the district learned of the alleged affair Jan. 28 when a student came forward. A day later, police received an anonymous tip that corroborated the story, leading to Vader -- a teacher and tennis coach -- being called in for questioning before his arrest Saturday morning.

I agree with 4th. Some people have the same attitude of zealots who stone those involved in adultery. Shades of Salem.

In at least 10 states it is not illegal to have consensual sex with a 16 year old. I say...ask him to leave employment, pay a $1000 fine, 100 hours of community service, and charge him with some crime that does not require... More ›

Debra ... So in your mind, the vocation, age and authority of the accused play a large role in determining the criminality of consensual sex. Applying the age gap (Romeo and Juliet) provision of Texas law would negate a... More ›

Retiredinlavernia.... Pedophilia normally refers to males at least five years older than prepubescent females. 16 year old females are well pass the age of puberty.

4th Gen....Fully agree. Those uninformed and well intentioned (at least in their minds) have done untold harm to many by thinking that they know better than our creator. It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature.
